Prosecutors of this Office directed the Chiayi City Police Bureau in conducting operations to maintain public safety, swiftly solving a hit-and-run case involving drug-infused driving. On the evening of August 8, 2026, the defendant, Chen ○-lin, drove a passenger car after consuming illicit drugs. While passing through the Baocheng Road area in Chiayi City, the defendant engaged in unprovoked reverse driving, rammed into vehicles stopped at a red light, and fled the scene. Subsequently, the defendant consecutively crashed into two factories and bystanders, causing injuries and property damage. Upon receiving reports, the police arrested the defendant on the spot and seized illicit drugs along with other related items inside the vehicle.
Following interrogation by the prosecutor, the defendant was deemed highly suspected of committing offenses including public endangerment via drug-infused driving, injury, and criminal damage to property. Considering that the defendant initiated consecutive violent collisions over trivial matters—posing a severe threat to public order—and that there is a risk of repeated offense, the prosecutor applied to the Taiwan Chiayi District Court to hold the defendant in custody, which was granted.
This Office emphasizes that prosecutors and police will rigorously investigate and swiftly prosecute all forms of drug-related crimes and violent acts that threaten public order, thereby safeguarding social security and protecting the lives and property of the public.
