The District Prosecutors Office was notified by the Shushang Division of the Chiayi County Police Bureau that a shooting incident occurred in Taibao City within its jurisdiction on the evening of June 13, 2026. The defendant, a 56-year-old male surnamed Lin (born in 1970), was suspected of committing armed intimidation and subsequently engaged in a standoff with the police inside a lottery shop. Attaching great importance to this major violent crime, this Office immediately assigned Prosecutor Lai Yun-yu to direct the investigation.

Thanks to the rapid mobilization of the police force, the defendant was successfully arrested in the early morning of yesterday (June 14) at a lottery shop in Taibao City, Chiayi County. One suspected long gun and one suspected handgun, among other evidence related to the case, were seized on the spot. Following an interrogation on the night of the same day, the prosecutor determined that the defendant is highly suspected of violating the Controlling Guns, Ammunition and Knives Act, and that there are sufficient grounds and a clear necessity for detention. Consequently, a motion for detention with a communication ban (detention incommunicado) was filed with the Taiwan Chiayi District Court. The court granted the motion today (June 15).

This Office reminds the public that the Controlling Guns, Ammunition and Knives Act is a critical piece of legislation for maintaining social peace, and citizens must not act with impunity or stir up trouble with weapons. For any major violent crime that endangers public safety or disrupts social order, prosecutors and police will rigorously investigate and swiftly prosecute without leniency, firmly defending the dignity of the rule of law and realizing the core value of living and working in peace and contentment.
