Attaching great importance to the case, Chief Prosecutor Tsai Tzung-Shi immediately assigned Prosecutor Yeh Mei-ching to establish a special task force to direct the investigation. Police officers were promptly dispatched to collect evidence at the scene, seize physical evidence, and swiftly arrest the suspect. Following an interrogation on the evening of September 8, the prosecutor determined that the suspect, Hou [○]-bi, is heavily suspected of committing the crime, and that grounds and necessity for detention exist. A motion for detention with prohibition of visitation and communication was filed with the Taiwan Chiayi District Court and subsequently granted.

On the evening of September 5, 2026, the deceased, a man surnamed Hou, attended a discussion regarding debt details at a private residence in Liujiao Township, Chiayi County, following an invitation related to a monetary dispute. During the negotiation, the defendant, Hou [○]-bi, committed violence using a baseball bat, causing the victim to suffer severe and extensive bruising to his buttocks and other areas. The following day (September 6), feeling extremely unwell, the victim was rushed to the hospital by family members, but ultimately succumbed to the severity of his injuries. The actions of the defendant, Hou [○]-bi, constitute a suspected crime of injury causing death under the Criminal Code.

The Chiayi District Prosecutors Office specially appeals to the public that when facing various debt or financial disputes, individuals should seek resolution through legal avenues or mediation channels. Do not rely on luck or resort to violence and vigilante justice to settle disputes.
