Regarding media reports published today (4th) by the Tainan City Public Health Bureau concerning expanded testing results on edible oils—which indicated that three camellia oil products were found to contain excessive levels of the carcinogen "benzo[a]pyrene," involving upstream raw material and manufacturing sources such as "Yuan ○ Oil Mill" within this Office's jurisdiction in Chiayi City—this Office clarifies as follows:

  1. Upon obtaining the relevant food safety information, this Office immediately initiated an investigation by creating a case file based on media reports ("clipping assignment"). Dedicated Prosecutor Lu Ya-chun was assigned to direct the Chiayi City Field Office of the Investigation Bureau, Ministry of Justice, to launch an investigation. The prosecutor subsequently led investigators, together with personnel from the Health Bureau of the Chiayi City Government, to conduct an on-site inspection at the involved premises to actively preserve relevant evidence.

  2. Food safety directly impacts the health of the general public, leaving no room for negligence or impunity. This Office will exert maximum investigative efficiency and continue to collaborate with health ethics units and local health bureaus to fully clarify the source of raw materials, the manufacturing and processing procedures, and the supply chain distribution of the involved products. If illegal acts are verified through investigation, this Office will strictly prosecute in accordance with the law to fully safeguard the public's dietary safety.
