In response to the investigation of the 2026 local government elections—aiming to rigorously crack down on vote-buying and violence, sever election gambling rings, block the interference of disinformation, and prevent foreign forces from intervening, thereby ensuring a fair and peaceful election—the "Election Offense Investigation Task Force" of the Chiayi District Prosecutors Office has been fully organized. On May 25, 2026, at 9:30 AM, a plaque-unveiling ceremony was held at the first-floor cloister of the Office. Chief Prosecutor Tsai Tzung-Shi invited heads and representatives from the prosecution, police, investigation, government ethics, immigration, and military police agencies to jointly inaugurate the task force. Attendees included Chief Chen Ming-chih of the Chiayi City Police Department, Deputy Chief Hsu Yi-hsiang of the Chiayi County Police Department, Director Chen Yao-hui of the Chiayi County Investigation Station, Director Yu Kuo-cheng of the Chiayi City Investigation Station, Director Liu Meng-cheng of the Chiayi City Government Ethics Department, Deputy Director Hou Chien-ting of the Chiayi County Government Ethics Department, Captain Lo Chin-ting of the Chiayi County Specialized Operation Brigade of the National Immigration Agency, Captain Tu Shun-fu of the Chiayi City Specialized Operation Brigade, and Major Deputy Section Chief Liao Yun-te of the Chiayi Military Police. Chiayi District Prosecutors Office Head Prosecutors Chiang Chih-jen, Chiang Chin-hsing, Chen Ching-hui, Chen Ting-wen, and Lin Yi-chun were also present to jointly declare their determination to crack down on bribery. Immediately following the ceremony, a summit of agency heads from the prosecution, police, and investigation units was convened to exchange views on the upcoming election investigation work.
Chief Prosecutor Tsai stated that in conducting the election investigation work this time, agencies across the prosecution, police, investigation, government ethics, immigration, and military police will follow the "Election Investigation Work Guidelines" promulgated by the Ministry of Justice. Grounded in the core objective of "Fair Elections, Safeguarding Democracy," they will strictly investigate vote-buying, deter election violence, thoroughly prevent disinformation from influencing the election, and severely prosecute foreign funding interventions. The Office will consolidate resources from the prosecution, police, investigation, government ethics, immigration, military police, and relevant administrative agencies. Regardless of the target's affiliation, political party, identity, or status, and adhering to the attitude of "every rumor will be investigated" and "every piece of evidence will be prosecuted," the Office will firmly maintain its principles and resolve that bribery investigations have "no baseline, no ceiling, and no time limit." Investigation actions will be launched swiftly, proactively, and dynamically to demonstrate the government's efficiency and determination to maintain fair and clean elections. The Office also urges all candidates to run a clean campaign, engage in fair competition, never buy votes, and strictly refrain from engaging in any activities prohibited by law. Concurrently, citizens are called upon to exert their supervisory power. As candidates launch various campaign activities, citizens should take concrete actions to support the government's anti-bribery efforts and actively report bribery to improve election culture and jointly safeguard the nation's democratic foundation.
The Office firmly believes that vigorous investigation of bribery is the best form of anti-bribery promotion. Previously, during the 2022 local government election investigations, the Office initiated public prosecutions in 232 cases, applied for summary judgments in 7 cases, filed 13 lawsuits to invalidate elections, secured 11 finalized rulings of invalid elections, and distributed a total of NT$5,681,250 in informant rewards. For the upcoming election investigation, the Office will collaborate strongly with relevant units, leverage teamwork to actively investigate cases, and advise candidates not to gamble with the law or act with impunity. All citizens are expected to fulfill their civic responsibilities, elect the virtuous and capable, demonstrate democratic literacy, and maintain Taiwan's democratic, free, and rule-of-law society.
【Report Bribery, Safeguard Chiayi】 Citizens are encouraged to courageously report all forms of illegal activities. The identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
