Senior Prosecutor Leads Seminar to Prevent Fraud, Harassment, and Personal Data Traps

Chiayi, Taiwan – To deepen the legal literacy of frontline postal personnel and cultivate a safe, professional work environment, the Taiwan Chiayi District Prosecutors Office (CYDPO) participated in the "2026 Legal Awareness Seminar" hosted by the Chiayi Post Office yesterday evening (the 12th). The CYDPO specially appointed Chief Prosecutor Chen Jing-hui to deliver a keynote speech titled "Workplace Self-Defense: Understanding Law and Protecting Rights." The seminar focused on core legal issues such as personal data protection, sexual harassment prevention, and anti-fraud measures, utilizing practical case studies to build a robust legal safety net for postal employees.

Regarding the Personal Data Protection Act, Chief Prosecutor Chen cited real-world cases involving debt disputes where individuals posted others' names, phone numbers, Facebook pages, and photos in public social media groups. Such actions constitute the illegal collection, processing, and use of personal data. She reminded attendees that even in cases of emotional distress or dispute resolution, one must not arbitrarily disclose others' private information to avoid inadvertently breaking the law while attempting to settle grievances.

On the topic of Sexual Harassment Prevention, Chief Prosecutor Chen provided an in-depth analysis of the revised legal standards, complaint mechanisms, and statutory obligations of employers. She emphasized that institutions must proactively establish workplace interactions based on mutual respect. Colleagues should avoid verbal, physical, or inappropriate behaviors that cause discomfort to others, working together to foster a friendly, safe, and equitable environment.

In light of the ever-evolving tactics of fraudulent crime, Chief Prosecutor Chen shared insights into high-frequency cases such as "fake recruitment," "romance scams," and "investment fraud." She deconstructed the psychological tactics used by criminal syndicates, reminding postal workers that as frontline service providers, they must not only remain vigilant themselves but also act as "anti-fraud seeds" within the community. When encountering suspicious messages, she urged adherence to the "1. Listen, 2. Hang up, 3. Verify" principle to safeguard both public and personal assets.

Legal education is the cornerstone of crime prevention. Through direct dialogue with grassroots agencies, the CYDPO aims to enhance the legal awareness of public servants and internalize the values of integrity and honesty within workplace culture. Moving forward, the Chiayi District Prosecutors Office will continue to promote diversified legal outreach activities and collaborate with various sectors to build a law-abiding, professional, and secure society.
