In a continuous effort to monitor price fluctuations of plastic products and prevent raw material supply issues from impacting market stability, the Chiayi District Prosecutors Office (CDPO) carried out the Executive Yuan’s price stabilization policy yesterday afternoon (April 21). The Office launched an inter-agency joint inspection, conducting on-site inventories at plastic manufacturing plants in Chiayi City.

Under the direction of Chief Prosecutor Tsai Tzung-Shi, the operation was led by Head Prosecutor Chen Ching-hui. The joint task force comprised representatives from:

  • The Ministry of Justice Investigation Bureau (Chiayi City Station)

  • The Department of Consumer Protection

  • The Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (MOEA)

  • The Ministry of Finance

  • The Ministry of Agriculture

  • The Fair Trade Commission

  • The Chiayi City Police Department

The team visited plastic bag manufacturing facilities to investigate procurement and sales pricing, as well as current supply and demand dynamics.

Key Findings and Market Monitoring

The inspection focused primarily on plastic bag manufacturers, using on-site visits to track changes in the purchase price and delivery volume of plastic pellets. Key takeaways include:

  • Inventory Levels: Current stocks of plastic raw materials are sufficient, with no signs of abnormal hoarding compared to the same period in previous years.

  • Price Trends: The CDPO is closely monitoring a rising price trend caused by production cuts of upstream raw materials.

  • Preventative Measures: Authorities have been urged to prevent businesses from using this trend as a pretext for price gouging.

Commitment to Market Order

Chief Prosecutor Tsai Tzung-Shi emphasized that price stability is the cornerstone of public welfare. The CDPO will continue to utilize the "Platform for Investigating Crimes Against Livelihood" to implement a dual-track approach of administrative guidance and criminal investigation. The Office remains committed to cracking down on behaviors that disrupt market order, ensuring that the supply chain for daily necessities remains uninterrupted and consumer rights are protected.
