CHIAYI, TAIWAN – A fatal fire broke out at a residence in Chiayi City yesterday evening (April 19), resulting in three fatalities. Upon receiving the report for the forensic examination from the Second Branch of the Chiayi City Police Bureau this morning (April 20), the Taiwan Chiayi District Prosecutors Office (hereinafter "the Office") immediately assigned Prosecutor Chen Rui-ming, accompanied by a forensic medical examiner, to conduct the examination (hsiang-yen).

The Prosecutor has directed judicial police and fire departments to carry out on-site inspections and evidence collection. Simultaneously, the Office, in collaboration with the Chiayi Branch of the Association for Victims Support (AVS), has activated a care mechanism to provide the bereaved families with counseling, necessary support, and companionship.

Following the initial examination, an autopsy has been scheduled for this Friday morning (April 24) to determine the exact cause of death for the three deceased individuals. Regarding the cause of the fire, the Office has commissioned the Chiayi City Fire Bureau to expedite the fire investigation and identification report to actively clarify the circumstances leading to the incident.
