In the early hours of April 11, 2026, a traffic interception occurred on Xingye West Road in the West District of Chiayi City. Local police attempted to pull over a private passenger vehicle that was traveling at inconsistent speeds, suspected of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The driver, identified by the surname Lin, refused to stop and immediately reversed, made a U-turn, and accelerated to flee the scene. After colliding with sidewalk planters and storefront signs along the route, the driver (Lin) and a passenger, identified by the surname Gao, abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Police subsequently apprehended both suspects in flagrante delicto. A search incident to the arrest resulted in the seizure of three firearms, 64 rounds of ammunition, and one package of Etomidate (a Category II narcotic).
Following an interrogation on the night of the same day, the prosecutor determined that the defendant, Lin, is suspected of violating Article 7, Paragraph 4, and Article 12, Paragraph 4 of the Controlling Guns, Ammunition and Knives Act for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. Given the severity of the offenses, their grave threat to social order, and the established fact of the suspect’s attempt to flee, the prosecutor filed a motion with the court for pretrial detention. The court granted the motion and ordered the suspect to be detained on the morning of the following day (April 12).
