Monitoring Market Dynamics in Real-Time to Prevent Illegal Hoarding and Price Gouging
Under the directives of the Taiwan High Prosecutors Office, the Chiayi District Prosecutors Office (CDPO) will continue to operate the "Livelihood Crime Investigation Liaison Platform" without interruption during the Tomb-Sweeping Festival long holiday. This ensures the maintenance of cross-agency communication mechanisms.
Chief Prosecutor Tsai Tzung-Shi has appointed Chen Ching-hui (Head Prosecutor of the Livelihood and Economic Crime Division) and Prosecutor Lu Ya-chun to remain on standby. They are tasked with addressing abnormal price fluctuations or suspicious activities in real-time. If necessary, investigative actions will be launched swiftly, following the principle of strict and severe prosecution.
Field Inspections and Intelligence Exchange
On April 1, 2026, during a platform meeting, a joint inspection team conducted on-site visits to retail markets and hypermarkets focusing on plastic bags, disposable packaging, and chemical fertilizers. The team aimed to:
-
Communicate the government's price stabilization measures.
-
Address feedback from grassroots retailers regarding reduced raw material supplies and fluctuating quotes from upstream factories.
-
Complete intelligence exchanges among platform members to verify any abnormal price hikes or shortages, thereby protecting consumer rights.
A Call to Corporate Responsibility
The CDPO urges businesses to uphold their corporate social responsibility and refrain from illegal hoarding or price gouging driven by holiday market demand.
Public Cooperation: Citizens are encouraged to report any irregularities to prosecutors, police, or investigative agencies immediately. Additionally, in alignment with plastic reduction policies, the public is advised to bring their own shopping bags or reuse existing plastic bags.
The CDPO will continue to collaborate closely with all liaison platform members to ensure the stability of commodity prices, ensuring a worry-free daily life for the public and a peaceful holiday season.
