Chiayi District Prosecutors Office (CYCPC) Prosecutor Hsiao Shih-yung, leading a joint investigation with the Chiayi County Police Bureau’s Criminal Investigation Corps and the Ministry of Justice Investigation Bureau (Chiayi County Station), has successfully obtained a court-ordered detention for a defendant, surnamed Hong, involved in a public intimidation case.

Case Details

The defendant, Hong (Male, born in 2001), posted anonymous comments on the Facebook group "Baofei Gongshe" (爆廢公社) on January 24, 2026. The posts threatened to launch attacks against random members of the public at mass transit stations.

Investigation and Arrest

  • January 27, 2026: A specialized task force executed a search warrant issued by the Chiayi District Court, searching the defendant’s residence.

  • Evidence Seized: Authorities confiscated a mobile phone used as a tool in the crime.

  • Apprehension: The defendant was taken into custody via a prosecutor-issued arrest warrant.

Legal Proceedings

Following an overnight interrogation, Prosecutor Hsiao determined that the defendant is heavily suspected of Offenses Against Public Safety (Intimidating the Public). Given the severity of the suspicions and the necessity for detention, a request was filed with the Chiayi District Court, which subsequently granted the motion for detention.

Official Statement

Chief Prosecutor Tsai Tzung-Shi emphasizes that judicial investigative agencies will aggressively, strictly, and swiftly crack down on "copycat" acts of public intimidation. Citizens are urged not to defy the law, but rather to work together to maintain social order and protect the lives, bodies, and property of the public.
