The Chiayi District Prosecutor's Office is investigating a case of suspected health insurance fraud by a doctor at a clinic in Chiayi. It is considering the public's medical rights and the soundness of the health insurance system. It is considered to be a public concern and it is necessary to make an appropriate public statement as follows:

Prosecutor Chen TingJun of the Chiayi District Prosecutor’s Office’s Livelihood Crime Investigation Bureau directed the Chiayi City Investigation Station of the Investigation Bureau of the Ministry of Justice, and yesterday (18th), together with the Southern District Business Group of the Central Health Insurance Agency of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, held a search ticket issued by the Chiayi District Court. Searched two clinics where the defendant and others were located in Chiayi County and City, seized relevant evidence, and summoned defendants Zhang ○○ and Li ○○. After interrogation overnight by the prosecutor, it was confirmed that the two defendants were involved in forgery of documents and fraud under the criminal law. He was suspected of bullying and other crimes. Although the criminal suspicion was serious, there was no need to detain him. Each of them was granted a bail of NT$500,000 pending questioning.

The Chiayi District Prosecutor’s Office calls on the National Health Insurance System as an important national policy and an important resource for the people. Medical institutions should verify the declared expenses. If anyone illegally fraudulently obtains state funds and harms the rights and interests of the people, the Office will prosecute according to law to safeguard the interests of the whole people.
